When Ruth + Sue approached us, they were frustrated with their outdated kitchen that just wasn’t working for them anymore.
The cramped space was not only uninviting but also lacked the functionality they needed for their lifestyle. They envisioned a fresh, modern kitchen that would make cooking and entertaining a joy rather than a chore.
This project was a referral from David Frost (Architecture & Design), with the kitchen designed by him.
So – we set out to turn Ruth + Sue's vision into reality, tackling not only the kitchen remodel but also addressing some exterior cladding issues along the way.
When we showed up, first thing we did was protect the carpet. Then we went to town, ripping out the old kitchen. We patched up the GIB board so the painters could come in and do their thing with plastering and painting. After that, the kitchen manufacturer came in, took measurements, and installed the new kitchen. To finish it off, we got the flooring guys in to lay down some fresh lino.
The best part of the job? Seeing the transformation. The old kitchen was, well, old and not very practical. The new one makes way better use of the space, which is pretty tight.
Now, we did face some challenges. Trying to make the new cladding match up with the old stuff was tricky. The old cladding is about 20 to 30 years old, so making it all look the same without damaging the existing stuff was a challenge (we only took photos of the inside for this project. The outside cladding just looks normal, so we didn't bother snapping pics of that.)
Another challenge was taking out the old kitchen without wrecking the walls too much. We had to patch things up real careful so you couldn't see any bumps or lumps in the walls. That was a good test of our skills.
This project was all about transforming a cramped and outdated kitchen into a modern, functional space that Ruth + Sue can truly enjoy. Despite some challenges along the way, our team delivered a beautiful result that not only enhanced their home but also improved their daily cooking experience.
